Woodway Residence 2

The owners of this lovely home were art collectors – having collected art from all around the world .  When the owners approached the architect about the design of their new home, they had basically three requirements.  One being that it showcase their art almost like in a museum, the second that it be very private from the street and finally that it make the most of the panoramic view from the bluff above Puget Sound.  All three goals were achieved through a balanced composition of walls and volumes that is almost all glass from the view side.  Additionally, a room-size cube floats over the first level, providing a vertical counterpoint to the stucco homes’ horizontal composition.  The design provides a series of layers to the home that guests pass through in order to arrive at the expansive view.  Using a linear gallery space which runs the length of the home, the architect links the independent volumes of the differing rooms.
